Kansas State University has validated reductions in microbial counts on #8 finish stainless steel coupons produced by the Puradigm Advanced Oxidation Cell after 0, 2, 6, and 24-hour exposure are presented in table 1. Exposure to oxidative gases and ionization produced by the cell reduced all microbial populations tested after just 2 hours. Longer exposure times resulted in greater reductions with the greatest reductions found after 24 hr exposure. The microbial reduction means after 24-hour exposure was;
Staphylococcus aureus (2.07 log C FU/cm), Escherichia coli (2.23 log C FU/cm), Escherichia
coli O .57:H7 (2.34 log CFU/cm) B acilus spp. (2.71 log C FU/cm), Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (2.12 log C FU/cm), Streptococcus spp. (1.93 log C FU/cm),Pseudonomas aeruginosa (2.34 log C FU/cm), Listeria monocytogenes (2.90 log C FU/cm), Candida albicans ( 3.87 log C FU/cm), and S. chartarum (4.12 log C FU/cm).
The Puradigm Advanced Oxidation Cell reduced microbial populations on stainless steel surfaces within 2 hour under ambient conditions, with greater reductions associated with longer exposure times. This study demonstrated that the low levels of vapor Hydrogen Peroxide combined with the ionization effect produced by the Puradigm system have the potential to be an effective surface disinfectant tool.
This technology has applications in healthcare, food processing, and home environmental decontamination.
